"5 Seconds"—Capturing the Quiet Intensity of Professional Bull Riding
When people look at this painting, I want them to feel the tension these athletes experience in the arena. Bull riders have only 8 seconds to perform, and I was fascinated by what happens in those critical first few seconds, especially at the halfway point—around 5 seconds in. It's a moment of pure determination, uncertainty, and adrenaline. I used Western Cubism to express this intensity because it allowed me to break down that raw energy into shapes and movement you can feel.
This piece is special to me—it’s one of the first Western Cubist sketches I ever created, and after much experimentation, I finally brought it to life. It's painted in a way that invites you to look closer, to explore the movement and textures. The "Touch Me" finish gives it an intriguing, tactile quality that you can't fully appreciate until you experience it in person.
I think collectors appreciate this painting because it's different; it sparks conversation and offers a new perspective on Western themes. The original is a large 40×60 inch, perfect as a focal point in your space. I’ve also created limited editions printed on wood—the Colorado Editions—that beautifully complement the original.
If you connect with the energy and unique style of "5 Seconds," I'd love to show you the details and share more of its story personally. Feel free to reach out, and we can arrange a Zoom call—I look forward to discussing this piece with you directly.
The Original is still available for purchase. 5 Seconds is a 40×60” piece. Both the Original and the Limited Editions have the same “Touch Me” finish applied. The Colorado Editions are 24×36” and are printed on a wooden surface.
